Stop The Boats*

  *It‘s not about the boats

We are very close to local elections and the squatter government is loosing in the polls. The only way they know how to claw back numbers whilst simultaneously deflecting from current and growing scandals is through stoking hate about Johnny Foreigner, by objectifying them to the point most xenophobes only see a red rag not the human being, nor desperate circumstances nor do they care by the time the government has finished brainwashing them.
2 minutes of daily hate right out of 1984
Those same voters are not likely to fact check or read up on the law either, believing what they are told giving them confirmation bias served on a plate. They also fail to understand that removing humans rights for others has reprecusions for them too.
I also see this as the government trying to find an acceptable avenue from their core support to finally leaving the ECHR without the fuss they know it would ordinarily bring even from core voters. But when you paint it as stopping boats, stopping the “swarm”, the “invasion” then it controls the narrative and manipulates the outcome.
AKA The Big Lie
It’s simple programming, right out of the NLP handbook and weak minds are very easy to manipulate. I don’t say that with any perceived derision, on the contrary I find it alarming how easy people are to manipulate and what that means for the rest of us.
To vote based on a grotesquely obvious lie on the side of bus is cause for great concern not self satisfaction.
I voted remain precisely becuase we had a conservative government. You can NEVER trust a Tory. I knew even back then that this government would use Brexit to deregulate the labour market and make us a tax haven for their friends.
Nothing since then has proven me wrong.
The case of Shamima Begum is linked in with the unfolding humans rights crisis we’re facing at the hands of the Tory agenda, because it means that any one of us no matter what laws we think currently protect us can lead to us having our citizenship revoked, not even being a dependent child can protect you.
Living outside of the protection of any human rights convention means any benign reason, as benign as disagreeing with the governments policy, for exercising free speech could therefore loose you citizenship under a complete lack of any protection.
So when Gary Lineker raises alarm at the language being used and is then being called to be silenced his point is being proven for him. To silence opposing views whilst championing your own views as being free speech is not free speech. It is the epitome of fascism.
When impartially is only ever in one direction it ceases to be impartial.
So when I say this is not about boats it really is anything and everything else. Its a carefully constructed narrative with many threads of what this government truly intends to do in practice and immigration is simply a means to an end for them.
What I also see is their growing paranoia in government given the growing frequency with which they deride their own civil servants. It started with condescending cards on their desks after lockdown eased to an memo calling a sub-section “left-wing blob”. They bicker more among themselves than at the opposition during PMQs and many MP’s stepping down at the next general election.
Even recently it was revealed they had so little donors the party went into oversdraft. A Conservative think tank concluded that the Tories were loosing membership as they were dying out and that not even generous membership discounts could get them new members especially younger membership.
I think what we’re seeing is a squalid government, who’s been in power too long, it’s poisoned their perspective and given them a license of entitlement so egregious as to break all the rules with impunity.
What I don’t see people talking about is the implications of our tenuous relationship with Europe if we left the ECHR because the Brexit deal is hinged upon us being a member and legally the EU can immediately end the Brexit deal if we leave. That has massive implications for the UK’s ability to function and feed it’s citizens.
There is also the little known matter of the Dublin III regulations that were never replaced and no replacement was ever agreed upon. It is why we have no safe routes to seek asylum since leaving the EU, It’s why we have the boats.
The issue isn’t why people are coming on boats then, but why WE aren’t offering them safe alternatives. Instead this government CHOOSES to stoke fear and hate, offering no solutions and deflecting your attention whilst they cling to power at the expense of us all.
NB: the Tory government shut down the migrant processing centre in Calais to save money but then proceeded to spend millions of taxpayers money and pass more than 6 acts of parliament to resolve an issue of their making. Also, we always had control over our borders, it was literally written into EU law. 3 month probation and you’re out, in short.
The writing was on the wall the whole time but this government kept making you look the other way from the truth to believe their lies. We’ve been played, we’ve been conned.

Worked to death

I was listening to The Rest is Politics podcast and I found myself switching it off in annoyance and saying to myself thats quite enough of you two thank you! My head went straight to the hunger games and the commentators of the game giving us a low down, normalising the grotesque nature of it all. That is what I think of the more recent commentary from Rory and Alastair. They are peddling the program to us and normalising something that should absolutely be resisted. Specifically this time, they were talking about the strikes in France and the change in retirement age. Their focus was on cost and economy. They couldn’t see why the French were resisting the age increase. They were pushing the narrative that this change was necessary to reduce cost. No mention of the humans this would impact, the different types of work or labour people do or whether their bodies could reasonably afford to be pushed to work later and later in life all so the government could find some monetary savings b...

I’ve halved my energy bills but at what cost?

Over the winter I read everything going on ways to reduce bills centring mostly around gas consumption.
